Loading Instructions
Please review these guidelines before filling your drop box.
Important Notice
Do not place prohibited materials in the drop box. Disposal of hazardous waste is illegal and may result in additional fees. If you are unsure whether a material is accepted, please call us at 503.531.8843 before loading.

- Construction & demolition debris
- Roofing materials (shingles, felt)
- Drywall and plaster
- Wood and lumber
- Concrete and masonry
- Dirt and soil
- Yard debris and landscaping waste
- Household furniture and appliances
- General household junk and clutter
- Scrap metal
- Flooring materials
- Insulation
Prohibited Items
- Hazardous waste of any kind
- Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials
- Tires (more than 4)
- Liquid waste or paint (in liquid form)
- Batteries (automotive or industrial)
- Propane tanks or compressed gas cylinders
- Medical or biohazardous waste
- Radioactive materials
- Pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals
- Fluorescent light bulbs (large quantities)
Construction, Demolition & Remodel Projects — Additional Paperwork Required
Before ordering a drop box for construction, demolition, or remodel debris, please review the Metro Waste Acceptance Form to confirm your material is accepted and to determine whether asbestos testing is required prior to disposal.
Loading Tips
Load Evenly
Distribute weight evenly throughout the box. Place heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top.
Do Not Overfill
Fill the box only to the top of the sides — do not pile materials above the rim. Overfilled boxes cannot be legally transported.
Break Down Large Items
Break down large items like furniture, pallets, and cardboard boxes to maximize space and ensure safe transport.
Keep the Area Clear
Ensure there is adequate clearance above and around the drop box for our truck to safely pick up and haul away your materials.
Protect Your Driveway
If placing the box on a paved surface, consider placing plywood under the box feet to prevent damage to your driveway.
Separate Recyclables
Separate yard debris, wood, dirt, concrete, scrap metal, and composition roofing from other waste to qualify for reduced rates.
Place on a Solid Surface
The drop box must be placed on a solid, stable surface such as concrete, gravel, or asphalt. Soft ground like grass or mud can cause the box to sink or shift.
